The Cōmodo is a 70-room design and wellness hotel set above Bad Gastein in a former 1960s clinic building, completely renovated in 2022 and opened in early 2023. Interiors draw heavily on 1960s and 1970s modernism, mixing original terrazzo, local oak and pine, vintage furniture, custom pieces and contemporary art. Mountain life here is balanced with an unusually substantial hotel experience: an 800 sqm spa, heated indoor pool, two saunas, gym, yoga room, farm-to-table restaurant, bar and private cinema. In winter the hotel runs a shuttle to Stubnerkogel, while hiking trails and the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Promenade make it equally relevant outside ski season.

AmberDesign produced 140 unique artworks alongside custom wallpapers, rugs and textiles inspired by the contours of the surrounding mountains.
Our take on the stay
The pool is one of the best reasons to leave the slopes early. It measures 12 × 5 metres, stays around 29°C and looks across the valley.
