In the Somerset village of South Petherton, Holm is somewhere you book as much for dinner as for the night upstairs. The former 1830s bank has become an intimate restaurant with just seven bedrooms, pairing beautifully understated interiors with Nicholas Balfe’s produce-led cooking and a strong connection to the surrounding countryside. The best way to experience it is to arrive early, have a drink, settle in for a long dinner and simply walk upstairs afterwards. Breakfast continues the same seasonal approach the next morning, while Bruton, Somerset countryside and the Jurassic Coast give you plenty of reasons to turn dinner into a proper weekend away.

Holm still uses the building’s original bank vault, now filled with low-intervention, organic, biodynamic and more unusual bottles.
