Palacio Can Marqués is a 13-suite hotel inside an 18th-century Mallorcan palace in Palma's La Lonja district. The house dates to around 1760 and still revolves around its grand internal patio, historic staircase and unusually generous proportions, with individually designed suites combining old architecture, art and contemporary furniture. Even the smallest suites start at 33 sqm. It feels remarkably private for somewhere this central. The secret garden gives you a quiet place behind the Old Town streets, the rooftop looks across Palma towards the cathedral, and The Merchants keeps dinner within the palace. La Llotja, Passeig des Born, the waterfront and La Seu are all just a few minutes away on foot.

The entrance is one of the best parts. You come in from La Lonja and suddenly find an 11-metre-high courtyard with alabaster columns and that extraordinary inverted imperial staircase.
