The Fish is a 66-key countryside hotel spread across the 500-acre Farncombe Estate, high above Broadway in the Cotswolds. Rather than occupying one grand country house, rooms and suites are scattered between several hillside buildings, with five Hilly Huts, ten Hideaway Huts and three treehouses tucked into the woodland. It feels closer to a small country settlement than a conventional hotel. The stay is built around being outside. Walk down through the fields to Broadway, head out along the surrounding Cotswold trails, try archery or falconry, then return for seafood-focused dinner at Hook or pizza and drinks by the fire. Couples can disappear into adults-only huts with private hot tubs, while families get proper adventure in the treehouses, complete with bunk rooms and heated outdoor baths.

Our take on the stay
For a couple, I would look hardest at the Hideaway Huts. A wood burner, roll-top bath and private hot tub make them feel much more like a retreat than simply another room category.
