WHY WE PICKED THIS HOTEL
We picked Casa Camélia because it’s tucked behind an unassuming door, then opens into a surprisingly large private garden and pavilion that give the stay a calm, house-like feel.
HOTEL DESCRIPTION
Casa Camélia is a small boutique guesthouse in Porto, set in a historic manor house at Rua da Bandeirinha 26, a short walk from the Douro and many of the city’s main sights. It’s intentionally intimate, with 9 rooms, each one styled a little differently and designed around views of the river, the garden, or the surrounding neighbourhood. A big part of the charm is what you do not see from the street: a large private garden hidden behind the house, plus a pavilion space where guests can help themselves to complimentary drinks. Breakfast is served as a buffet each morning, and there’s on-site parking available if you’re arriving by car. It’s a great pick if you want somewhere calm and personal, but still close enough to explore Porto on foot.
Our take on the stay

Porto
Porto has a quiet confidence, with tiled façades, steep streets, and sudden views over the Douro that make you stop mid-walk. In Cedofeita, one of the city’s most creative neighbourhoods, galleries, independent shops, and small cafés give the area a distinctly local feel. Set inside a restored 19th-century townhouse with sweeping views and a garden overlooking the city, Casa Camélia feels more like staying in someone’s elegant home than a traditional hotel. It’s intimate, slightly tucked away, and perfectly placed for exploring Porto on foot.
