WHY WE PICKED THIS HOTEL
Independente Comporta sits on a wide stretch of Alentejo countryside just a short drive from the Atlantic beaches. The scale of the grounds, the private outdoor spaces, and the focus on food and wellness give it the feel of a relaxed retreat rather than a typical beach hotel.
HOTEL DESCRIPTION
Independente Comporta is set on a 12-hectare estate between Comporta and Melides, surrounded by pine forest, rice fields and the soft, open landscapes that define this stretch of the Alentejo coast. It feels rural and spacious rather than polished or busy, with a setting that encourages you to slow down and settle into the rhythm of the region. At the centre of the estate is a 40-room hotel, with a further 24 villas spread across the grounds, some with private pools. The overall feel is relaxed and design-led, with private patios, plenty of outdoor space, a main pool area, a spa, and easy access to Comporta’s beaches for days when you want to trade countryside calm for the Atlantic.

The restaurant and pool bar make it easy to spend an entire day on the property, moving between long lunches, the pool, and slow evenings.

HOTEL LOCATION
THIS IS GREAT
Set on a large 12-hectare estate between Comporta and Melides, with rice fields and pine forest all around.
The architecture and interiors draw from traditional Alentejo houses, using local craft references, natural textures, and soft earthy tones.
Every hotel room comes with its own private patio, some villas offering their own private pools for a more secluded stay.
Maroto and Bóia give the hotel a strong food and drink offering, from a more creative take on Alentejo cuisine to casual poolside cocktails, salads, pizzas, and lighter bites.
The hotel also runs yoga sessions, including its own Yoga Sundays offering
Aura Spa adds another layer to the stay, giving the property more of a retreat feel than a simple beach base.
The location works especially well for travellers who want Comporta’s beaches without staying in the middle of the village, with the coast, restaurants, and surrounding countryside all within easy reach.

Comporta
Comporta feels worlds away from the pace of Lisbon, a stretch of Atlantic coastline where rice fields, pine forests, and long sandy beaches define the landscape. The village itself is small and understated, with wooden cafés, quiet lanes, and beach paths that lead toward places like Praia da Comporta and Carvalhal. Independente Comporta sits just outside the village, set among the open fields and dunes that give this part of the Alentejo coast its calm, spacious character.
