Architect-designed cabins in the Swedish archipelago, surrounded by nature

Sauna and outdoor firepit for slow evenings

WHY WE PICKED THIS HOTEL

Landet Cabins offers a rare mix of true off-the-grid living and serious architectural quality, where the cabins feel both remote and thoughtfully designed rather than rustic or improvised.

HOTEL DESCRIPTION

Landet is a small collection of architect-designed cabins set in a quiet, waterfront nature reserve in the Swedish archipelago, less than an hour from Stockholm. It’s designed for switching off properly, with forest all around, water close by, and a feeling of privacy that’s hard to find so close to a capital city. This is not a typical hotel setup. You’re staying in your own cabin with space, views, and nature as the main event. Days here are simple and outdoorsy. You can walk the trails straight from the cabins, swim in nearby spots, and end the day with a sauna and a fire under the trees. In the warmer months, Landet also has a dedicated yoga area and provides things like kayaks and paddleboards, so you can spend your time on the water as well as in the forest. It’s the kind of place where you cook for yourself, slow everything down, and leave with your head feeling clearer.

Our take on the stay

Eliza

Landet is one of those places where the architecture doesn’t compete with nature, it amplifies it. You wake up and the forest is basically in the room, framed by those huge windows.

HOTEL LOCATION

MORE INFORMATION

This is great

  • A small collection of architect-designed cabins set in a 400-hectare nature reserve on the edge of the Swedish archipelago, so it feels properly remote while still being reachable from Stockholm

  • Cabins are designed by Swedish architect Andreas Martin-Löf with interiors by Tobias Vernon (8 Holland Street), giving the whole place real design credibility without feeling cold or showroom-like

  • Big floor-to-ceiling windows frame forest and water like artwork, and the cabins sit lightly on the land, so nature stays the main event

  • The on-site rhythm is exactly what you want here: wood-fired sauna by a private bay, firepit nights, and swims that turn into long, slow afternoons

  • It’s self-catered, but not DIY. You get comfort, warmth, and thoughtful details that make it easy to settle in quickly

Good to know

  • 7 cabins total (5 one-bedroom cabins + 2 two-bedroom cabins)

  • Check-in from 15:00

  • Check-out until 11:00

  • Cabin size: approx. 40 m² to 52 m²

  • Each cabin includes a kitchenette, fireplace, air conditioning, and heated bathroom floors, plus two private terraces

  • Wood-fired sauna on site, plus a communal firepit

  • In warmer months, there’s access to kayaks, paddleboards, bikes, and designated areas for yoga/meditation

  • No on-site restaurant, but meals can be arranged for delivery and there are good spots nearby (Trosa area)

  • Pets are allowed in some cabins (fees/conditions may apply)

  • Best reached by car, but it’s also doable by train + short taxi

  • Around 1 hour from central Stockholm, and roughly 1h 30 from Stockholm Arlanda Airport

Västerljung

Västerljung is a peaceful stretch of countryside and coastline in Sweden’s archipelago, where forests, lakes, and quiet roads lead down to the Baltic Sea. The area feels remote and beautifully untouched, perfect for swimming, kayaking, and long walks in nature. Landet Cabins sit quietly within this landscape, offering a simple, design-led escape surrounded by fresh air and open space. It’s a place to slow down, disconnect, and enjoy the calm rhythm of life by the water.
