WHY WE PICKED THIS HOTEL

Most Porto trips are full-on. Here you can balance it with rooftop sunsets and an indoor-pool reset.

HOTEL DESCRIPTION

The Rebello is a stylish riverside hotel in Vila Nova de Gaia, set inside restored old wine warehouses right on the Douro. You’re looking straight across to Porto’s historic skyline, and you’re close to the port cellars and the riverside promenade, so it feels very “Porto” even though you’re technically on the Gaia side. The vibe is polished but relaxed, with a focus on comfort and a setting that does a lot of the talking. A big part of what makes The Rebello special is that many of the rooms are more like studios and suites, and they come with a kitchen or kitchenette, which is rare at this level. There’s also a proper wellness side to the stay, with a Roman-baths-inspired spa and an indoor pool for year-round swims. Add in the rooftop bar for sunset drinks and you’ve got a hotel that works just as well for slow days in as it does for exploring the city.

Our take on the stay

Bob

I love that it’s set inside old warehouses, but the vibe isn’t heavy or dark. It’s bright, design-led, and the riverfront location makes everything feel more spacious.

Porto

Porto is a city full of soul, built along the steep banks of the Douro River with colourful houses stacked one above another. Narrow cobbled streets lead to tiled churches, lively riverside cafés, and viewpoints that glow beautifully at sunset. The Rebello sits right on the water in Vila Nova de Gaia, perfectly positioned to take in sweeping views across the river to Porto’s historic centre. It’s an ideal base for exploring the city while enjoying a calm, elegant riverside setting.
