WHY WE PICKED THIS HOTEL

We picked Villa Lena for its scale and purpose: a working Tuscan estate that combines hospitality, food, and a strong creative program. It’s designed for longer stays, with space to move, eat well, and settle into the landscape rather than treat it as a backdrop.

HOTEL DESCRIPTION

Villa Lena is a countryside estate in the Province of Pisa, set deep in the hills near the tiny hamlet of Toiano. It feels properly away from it all, with long views, woodland paths, olive groves, and a real sense of space. The atmosphere is relaxed and slightly artistic rather than polished, with a main villa at the centre and a collection of buildings spread across the property. Days here tend to be slow and outdoorsy. Guests spend time by the pools, wander the grounds, join creative workshops, or settle in with long, easy meals made from seasonal produce. It’s a place that suits travellers who want nature, calm, and something a bit different, with the bonus of being within driving distance of some of Tuscany’s most-loved towns.

Our take on the stay

Bob

This is Tuscany for people who want space and atmosphere, not a checklist. The rooms are spread across the estate, the pools pull you outside, and the days unfold without you needing to plan them.

HOTEL LOCATION

MORE INFORMATION

This is great

  • A 19th-century hilltop estate that feels like a real Tuscan world of its own, where countryside life, contemporary culture, and slow hospitality genuinely overlap

  • A rare mix of hotel stay + artist residency energy, with creativity in the background rather than forced “retreat” programming

  • Seriously beautiful outdoor swimming spots across the grounds, including a panoramic pool (and at least one pool that’s heated)

  • Farm-to-table dining on site with Osteria San Michele, plus bars and long, slow meals that suit the setting

  • Yoga spaces including an indoor studio and an outdoor deck

  • The estate is vast and immersive, so days naturally become about walks, swims, reading, workshops (if you want them), and doing far less

Tuscany

Tuscany unfolds in rolling hills, cypress-lined roads, and stone villages shaped by centuries of history, and Villa Lena sits right at the heart of it all. Surrounded by vineyards, forests, and open countryside, the estate offers space, calm, and a deep connection to the landscape. Days here move slowly, filled with walks through nature, long meals, and warm Tuscan light stretching into the evening. It’s a place where the timeless beauty of Tuscany feels both grounding and inspiring.
