Why we picked this hotel
The location beside Plaça Catalunya is exceptionally useful, but the restored historic details, new interiors and lively ground-floor spaces make Regina much more than a convenient base.
Hotel description
Hotel Regina has been part of Barcelona since 1917, and that history still comes through in the modernist entrance, old stained glass and century-old details. The 2024 renovation gave the rooms a calmer, more contemporary feel without sanding away the building’s character, and the best categories open onto balconies, terraces or pieces of the hotel’s original past. Downstairs has its own easy rhythm. Breakfast happens around Gina’s leafy patio, Gina’s Salon shifts from morning coffee to cocktails, and Bar La Esquina keeps things local with Catalan dishes, seasonal produce and plenty coming off the grill. Plaça Catalunya is just around the corner, so it is an especially easy base for days spent moving between Passeig de Gràcia, the Gothic Quarter and the rest of central Barcelona.
Hotel location

This is great
A Barcelona address since 1917
Regina has welcomed guests beside Plaça Catalunya for more than a century while retaining architectural details from its long history.
Freshly redesigned rooms
A major 2024 renovation refreshed the guestrooms with warm woods, clean lines and a contemporary approach by WIT Architects.
A ballroom turned suite
The 40 sqm Century Suite occupies the former ballroom, retaining its 1917 columns, parquet flooring and high decorative ceilings.
Gina’s changes throughout the day
The lobby moves from coffee and casual lunches to cocktails, tapas, lower lighting and music as evening arrives.
Breakfast around a green patio
Gina’s Patio creates a small planted courtyard for breakfast, freshly cooked eggs, coffee and quieter mornings in central Barcelona.
Plaça Catalunya steps away
The hotel sits just 50 metres from the square, making Eixample, La Rambla and the Gothic Quarter easy to explore on foot.
Our take on the stay
The Century Suite still has the original ballroom columns and parquet from 1917, which gives it far more character than the usual hotel suite.
