Why we picked this hotel
Papotte combines four brilliantly individual houses with river swimming, playful HEJU interiors and enough food and activities on site to make staying put genuinely appealing.
Hotel description
Papotte is the kind of Burgundy hideaway where plans tend to become less ambitious after arrival. Four beautifully reworked houses sit around an old mill in Bligny-sur-Ouche, with the river threading through the estate, gardens spilling between the buildings and HEJU's playful interiors giving each house its own personality. One might be all terracotta and dark timber, another softer and more colourful, but all are made for settling in rather than simply sleeping over. Days here can be wonderfully uncomplicated. Pick something from the vegetable garden, have breakfast at the café, take the rowing boat onto the pond, swim in the river in summer or disappear into the Burgundy countryside before opening a bottle back at the house. Beaune and the wine villages are close enough for a day out, but Papotte makes staying put feel just as appealing.
Hotel location

This is great
Four houses in a mill estate
Papotte turns a former Burgundy mill into four independent stays, each with its own scale, colours, materials and private outdoor space.
Interiors by HEJU
Hélène Pinaud and Julien Schwartzmann designed each house with a distinct identity, combining Burgundy stone, timber, colour and vintage pieces.
The Ouche runs through it
Swimming happens directly in the river, with Maison 2 even adding its own hidden riverside spot and ladder into the water.
A garden you can eat from
Guests can harvest from the large vegetable garden, while fishing, rowing and walking make the grounds part of everyday life.
Made for couples and groups
The houses range from an intimate 40 sqm retreat for two to a 300 sqm seven-bedroom house for larger gatherings.
Food without a formal restaurant
Breakfast, café drinks, Burgundy wines, prepared dishes, cheese boards, raclette and private-chef dinners can all be added to the stay.
Our take on the stay
The design is reason enough to come, but the river, fishing pond, vegetable garden and easygoing café make Papotte feel much more alive than a collection of holiday houses.

About the destination
Burgundy
Burgundy is a region of rolling vineyards, medieval villages, and historic towns, where wine, food, and countryside life are closely connected. Beyond the celebrated vineyards of the Côte d’Or, quiet country roads lead through farmland, forests, and villages filled with stone houses and traditional markets. PAPOTTE sits in the Ouche Valley near Bligny-sur-Ouche, where a restored historic mill and its gardens offer a peaceful countryside stay within reach of Burgundy’s celebrated wine villages.
