The Hoxton’s first Scottish hotel spreads across 11 joined Georgian townhouses on both sides of Grosvenor Street, giving it far more character than a conventional city hotel. AIME Studios worked around the buildings’ original architecture, mixing cornicing and tall sash windows with sage greens, heather pinks, vintage lighting, local artwork and more contemporary pieces. The ground floor is deliberately sociable: coffee or a drink in the lobby, Italian food at Patatino, then perhaps a film in the tiny five-seat cinema. Haymarket Station is only a few minutes away, while Dean Village, Princes Street and central Edinburgh are easily reached on foot. It works especially well for design-minded city breaks, friends and families who want more life and personality than a traditional Edinburgh hotel.

The cinema genuinely has only five seats. Burgundy velvet, a popcorn machine and films selected with local Cinetopia make it feel more like someone’s secret screening room than another hotel amenity.
